Website Suggestions

So we have this website that no one really goes do, so any ideas on how to improve usage of this please post here.  Assuming there is anyone actually bothering to browse here.

  1. The only thing I can think of that MIGHT help, is if we publicize the site more, and then of course we would have to make sure to put up information, for example we could have put the sign up for Medieval Times on the site. So maybe next time that we have an event, we have to post it and details, then have people check it out, and then reply weather or not they are going to attend, and even if we don’t want to have them post, we can simply put up an email address and if they are interested all they have to do is email the person. That would make things a little easier, as well as get some traffic on the site. I for one would like something new to be on every day if possible, that way when I really have a reason to keep checking the site every day to see if someone posted something…just a thought

  2. I say perhaps we could make it easier to find. I took all my Google-ing knowledge to figure out where this site is (although I have heard the URL dropped at meetings a few times, I was not quick enough with the pen to scribble it down). Posssible options would be setting it up with it’s own domain (www.alteredreality.com would be easy to remember). Another solution would be having Duckwitz plug the site on his U Rock staff page. And maybe someone else Google bomb it on their own page. In addition, plugging it through the Facebook group (which I just discovered existed) would be a nice touch, as would be creating a Myspace group (which would give me an excuse to actually log into my Myspace account.)

Here’s an interesting idea; a weekly webcomic. It doesn’t even have to be that good; maybe just video game sprites thrown together in Photoshop, or even Paint. Have the characters be people in Altered Reality. I dunno who’s good at making sprites, but if you guys are interested I dabbled in the art a few years back. With some self-training I could be decent enough. Just a suggestion. Could be fun though, never know.

Most important, though, would be keeping the site current and informative. That should be the number one priority.

Making a great deal of information available and

  3. I think we should get the domain alteredreality.org, as we are an organization. Budgeting for this shouldn’t be a problem, domain registration isn’t overly expensive and this would be considered advertising. I think the more active forums we have the better. I think having some review sections where we can put up reviews of movies, books, games and so on would help bring people back to the site. I like the webcomic idea, that sounds pretty sweet.

  4. Have mandatory sign ins. I don’t know how this would work, but maybe have a topic from each meeting moved into the forums so that it can be addressed on the website!!!!!
